Upward mobility falls off the cliff

A mind-blowing review of recent articles on the state of the American economy (from Truthout): Middle-Class Death Watch: As Poverty Spreads, 28 Percent of Americans Fall Out of Middle Class.

Highlights include the fact that over one in five Californians are now either unemployed or underemployed: “A broader measure of unemployment — which also includes part-time workers and people outside the labor force who have been looking for a job — is 22% in California and 24% in Los Angeles.” Which means the number of people who can afford any type of roof over their head is plummeting.

How are we going to absorb that many people into public shelters? How long will they end up being there? Will we end up with large portions of American communities looking nothing so much like refugee camps in Third-world countries or the forced ghettos in Germany and Poland before WWII?

And from the same compilation is a link to the article “The Great Bank Robbery: Economy Will Transfer $5 Trillion To Banker Pay And Bonuses”. Yes, you read that right, not million, not billion, but over the next decade, the personal wealth of the banking class will be enriched by five trillion dollars from your pocket right into the pocket of the already-rich banks.
